This is an intensive study that intends to create potential for an independent development as a figurative painter. The teaching focuses on the idiom and techniques of classic painting. It will give you a profound understanding of the professional and artistic fields that are fundamental to execute work in classic figurative techniques.

To learn this means getting a tool, which is an important prerequisite for building up and developing projects, and entering into dialogues about artistic and practical challenges.

As a student you will get exercises and tasks that bring relevant topics up for discussion. You will build up skills that give possibility for immersion in the study. The first part includes observation studies of figure composition with the development of painting techniques and image feature. We work with measurement and analysis of sizes and proportions.

It is important that you are 100% motivated, as this painting technique is very labour intensive and requires 100% mental presence of the student. Generally, everybody gets individual instruction and it is required that the student can work independently in periods. There are also theory sessions focusing on techniques, craft, self discipline and presence.

No special skills are required to apply to become a student of Algrim, other than personal commitment and a strong desire to work with the many possibilities that exist in this art form.
We also take excursions at home and abroad.

Send a few words about yourself and photos of recent work (painting/drawing) to: post@algrim.com  mark STUDENT

Golden Spiral

Symbol of Harmony and Beauty
The Golden Spiral structure represents two well known sacred geometry
shapes: the golden mean (phi) spiral and the Fibonaccispiral.

In geometry, a golden spiral is a logarithmic spiral whose growth factor b is related to Ï•, the golden ratio. Specifically, a golden spiral gets wider (or further from its origin) by a factor of Ï• forevery quarter turn it makes.

"THE KEY TO THE PHYSICS OF THE COSMOS"
(Plato) Phi (golden mean) Phi is a constant value which is even more mysterious and profound in its implications than pi. Like pi, phi is a number with no arithmetical
solution. The decimals just keep on going into infinity without ever repeating themselves. The unique thing about this number is that it can be found incorporated in all known organic structures. From the bone structure of human beings to the seed pattern of a sunflower to the spiral of a sea shell, the phi proportion is there, underlying all biological structures, seeming to be a geometrical blueprint for life itself.

Plato went so far as to call the phi ratio the "key to the physics of the cosmos". Phi is calculated at 1.6180339+..., and while it cannot be worked out  rithmetically, it can be easily obtained with a compass and straightedge.
